ADDAX PETROLEUM and the Faculty of Science, University of Douala: A strategic alliance for the future

The Faculty of Science at the University of Douala experienced a pivotal moment this FridayJuly 11, 2025, hosting Mr. Qu Bin, CEO of ADDAX PETROLEUM Cameroon, and his high-level delegation from the Beijing headquarters, a Sinopec subsidiary. This visit to the Petromines laboratories marked a new milestone in an already strong collaboration, focused on capacity building and training future Cameroonian talents.

At the heart of this meeting, Professor Joseph Marie NTAMAK NIDA, Dean of the Faculty of Science and also coordinator of Petromines since her ministerial appointment in 2015, brilliantly presented Petromines. Her exposition highlighted ADDAX PETROLEUM’s past contributions as a major player in offshore oil exploration in Cameroon. The IT lab, a donation of 250 million FCFA in 2022, and the electron microscopes for the Department of Earth Sciences laboratory (100 million FCFA) were showcased, symbolizing a consistent commitment. The Dean also expressed her profound gratitude for past support to the Forums (2017, 2019) and the Scientific Café (2022), evidence of a dynamic partnership.

Continuing her presentation, Professor NTAMAK NIDA articulated crucial strategic needs for the evolution of training. She notably requested the acquisition of “ready-to-use” containerized laboratories – modular and mobile infrastructures – as well as electrical resistivity geophysical equipment, as the current equipment is obsolete. These requests align perfectly with ADDAX PETROLEUM’s new orientation, eager to “contribute to infrastructure.” The satisfaction of ADDAX officials was palpable, visibly indicating their readiness to study and validate the financing of these projects, confirming a new dimension to their collaboration.

This synergy between ADDAX PETROLEUM and the Faculty of Science at the University of Douala is more than just a partnership; it is a concrete promise. It ensures cutting-edge training for students, fosters applied research, and builds a qualified workforce, essential for Cameroon’s economic development and its ambition for a national economy. An exemplary collaboration, resolutely focused on excellence and a shared future.
